People who make meals at Eastern School District cafeterias have reached a tentative agreement with their employer.

The more than 100 cafeteria workers employed by the Missasauga-based Chartwells company were preparing to strike Monday.

In late January, 93 percent of the workers voted to give their union, CUPE, a strike mandate.

The workers involved in the dispute prepare meals for 42 schools in the Eastern School district, which services eastern Newfoundland.

A spokesperson for the union, Ed White, told CBC News the employees will be at work tomorrow and voting on the new agreement will take place this coming week.

He wouldn't say if the union is recommending that the workers should accept the agreement.
