People who make meals in school cafeterias in the Eastern school district have voted to strike.
Ed White — a representative with CUPE, the union that represents the workers — says their 93 per-cent mandate should send a strong message to the company.
Whether they do or not depends on the response of employer Mississauga-based Chartwells.
"I hope to hear something from them soon, to see if there's another offer will be forthcoming. Other than that it's a wait and see process, and we'll discuss with the committee the eventually timing of a strike if, in fact, one happens," White said.
He said the earliest a strike might happen is Friday, Feb. 3.
Chartwells’ 105 workers prepare meals for 42 schools in the Eastern School district, which services eastern Newfoundland.
The board has advised parents they should be ready to start making lunches for their children.
