The best and brightest musicians from Canada's east coast were highlighted Friday as the 2012 East Coast Music Award nominees were announced.
Both Fredericton-born David Myles, and Bairdsville's Matt Andersen grabbed five nominations each, including Fan's Choice Entertainer of the Year.
Nova Scotia's Jimmy Rankin leads the pack of ECMA nominations this year with eight nods in just about every category for which he was eligible, including Fan's Choice, Entertainer of the Year, and Album of the Year for his latest album, Forget About The World.
The veteran Cape Breton singer-songwriter had the record number of nominations at the ECMAs.
Nova Scotia hip-hop star Classified got the next most nominations, with six, including Song Of the Year for That Ain't Classy, while Nova Scotia's, The Trews, grabbed five nods.
P.E.I.'s Catherine MacLellan is no stranger to nominations. She took home five Music PEI awards last week. Now her latest album Silhouette has gained her a further three nominations for ECMAs.
Host province New Brunswick grabbed a total 32 East Coast Music Award nominations.
The event is being held this year at Casino N.B. in Moncton between April 11 and 15.
Andersen has garnered some significant accolades recently, including being voted Entertainer of the Year, Male Vocalist of the Year, and Acoustic Artist of the Year at the Maple Blues Awards earlier this month in Toronto.
Hey Rosetta has the most nominations of any act from Newfoundland and Labrador.
The group is nominated for the Fan's Choice Entertainer of the Year, Fan's Choice Video of the Year, Album of the Year and Group Recording of the Year.
Newfoundland and Labrador's Ron Hynes, the Navigators and Mark Bragg also have two nominations each.
The ECMAs week-long celebration will culminate with the gala awards show on April 15, hosted by Roch Voisine.
