Hundreds of mummers parade in St. John's

Hundreds of people broke out the ugly sticks and cardboard horses Saturday afternoon to put a new twist on an old Newfoundland tradition.
They paraded through St. John's as part of the third annual Mummers Parade. It's an event aimed at bringing the practice of mummering into modern times.
Mummering has long been a part of Newfoundland culture. At Christmas time, people in outports would swap clothes, hide their faces, and go from door to door spreading merriment and mischief, until the home-owner guessed who they were.
Participants in this year's parade took to the streets before congregating at The Rooms for a concert and mummers jam session.
