A transport driver from the Moncton, N.B. area died after a tractor-trailer crashed on the Trans-Canada Highway in eastern Newfoundland Monday night.
RCMP said the truck sideswiped a car and overturned in a brook, about 14 kilometres east of Clarenville.
A woman who was travelling with the trucker was seriously hurt. No one in the car was injured, said Sgt. Boyd Merrill.
Police closed part of the highway to clean up a significant load of fish that spilled from the truck.
"The vehicle will have to be removed from the roadway and the contents of the truck will have to be taken off the road, and that could take some time," Merrill told CBC News.
"You're talking about thousands and thousands of pounds of contents of this vehicle."
Traffic was being diverted from the TCH through the small communities of Ivany's Cove and North West Brook.
The case is under investigation.
