A young man who narrowly missed becoming the mayor of Paradise in 2009 will be the NDP's candidate for the district of Mount Pearl North in the next provincial election.
Kurtis Coombs, who had only last year unsuccessfully sought the Progressive Conservative nomination in the Topsail byelection, said the New Democrats are now the best fit with his political views and that he's delighted to be the candidate.
Coombs was only 19 ran when he ran mayor of Paradise. The election ended in a dead tie between him and incumbent Mayor Ralph Wiseman. The tie was broken when Wiseman's name was drawn from a recycling bin.
Coombs unsuccessfully challenged that decision in court.
With his nomination on Thursday, the NDP now has 21 candidates in place for the upcoming fall election.
Mount Pearl North is currently represented by Tory Steve Kent.
