A man killed in a southern Labrador highway accident had been returning home from a fishing trip, police said Thursday.

The man was one of a party of four who were in a Chevy Silverado that veered toward the shoulder of the Trans-Labrador Highway about 27 kilometres north of Port Hope Simpson.

The man, who had been driving the vehicle, died at the scene. A passerby took the other three men to a clinic in Port Hope Simpson, RCMP said.

"All four men were on their way home from a fishing trip in the Cartwright area," Sgt. Boyd Merrill said in a statement.

The vehicle was found in a ditch, lying on its passenger side.

RCMP are investigating the incident.
