Newfoundland and Labrador Premier Kathy Dunderdale says she made the right call when she threw her support behind federal Conservative Party Leader Stephen Harper in the federal election.

Dunderdale said Monday that she has spoken with Prime Minister Stephen Harper since the election about finalizing the loan guarantee for Muskrat Falls.

She said Newfoundland and Labrador needs the cooperation of the federal government in many areas.

"There are major files in this province where we need the help and support of the federal government - fisheries, health care and particularly in energy," said Dunderdale.

The paperwork on the Muskrat Falls hydroelectric development loan guarantee hasn't been finalized but Dunderdale believes it will happen soon.

"I spoke to the prime minister two days after the election and we talked about the work that we had before us and he told me that he was eager to get on with it, as am I," she said.

While Harper has suggested publicly that he supports Muskrat Falls, provincial Liberal Party leader Yvonne Jones has made it clear that she does not.

At the provincial house of assembly Monday, Jones continued to attack the project as a white elephant that will drive up the price of electricity in Newfoundland and Labrador.

"The people in Newfoundland and Labrador will have to pay the greatest amount of the cost towards the project," she said.

Dunderdale has been countering comments from Jones like that since late 2010.

"Muskrat Falls is the answer to the energy needs of Newfoundland and Labrador for 2016 and beyond, " she reiterated Monday.
