Jeff Gilhooly, host of the St. John's Morning Show on CBC Radio One, told listeners Wednesday he is taking leave to undergo surgery for prostate cancer.

"I've probably done more homework than I have since I was 15," Gilhooly said before signing off Wednesday.

Gilhooly said he hopes to be back on the air within a few weeks.

John Furlong, host of the Fisheries Broadcast, will be stepping in behind Gilhooly as he undergoes treatment.

"John will take care of you while I take care of me for the next several weeks," Gilhooly said.
