Snowstorms in Ontario and Quebec have created a fuel shortage in western Labrador by preventing shipments from arriving.

On Wednesday, at least one station in Labrador City ran out of gasoline and another in station in Wabush was rationing the fuel it had.

"We have a shortage in the area mainly because the railway is washed out coming from Sept Isles [Quebec],” said Nelson Dumaresque, owner of the Esso gas station in Labrador City.

"The only other way in is by road and the conditions of the road are not very good. So it's going to be late [Wednesday] or later in the week before we get any fuel."

Municipal politicians in the area said there are three fuel-tanker trucks on the way to Labrador West.
