Ear-biter convicted of aggravated assault

Jason English was convicted Wednesday of aggravated assault. (CBC)A convicted drug dealer accused of biting off part of a St. John's bartender's ear was found guilty Wednesday of aggravated assault.
Jason English, 30, used excessive force to defend himself, according to provincial court Judge Lois Skanes.
English was also found guilty of breaching the conditions of his previous conviction on drug charges and of failing to keep the peace.
English was found not guilty of another charge of assault, and not guilty on two charges of uttering threats.
All of the charges were related to an after-hours brawl in May at Spin, a downtown St. John's nightclub, where bartender Ches Bursey lost the top of his ear.
English is scheduled to appear in court in St. John's for a sentencing hearing Nov. 29.
