Chatroulette creates random connections with other people who are online with webcams. (CBC)Video from Chatroulette, a website that encourages people to talk to strangers, is turning up in child pornography investigations.

The site uses webcams to connect complete strangers online, but police in St. John's say it's also helping some adults prey on vulnerable children and teenagers.

Chatroulette's slogan is "Talk to Strangers." But masturbation, flashing and other sexual acts are also being live-streamed around the world.

Emma Blackwood, 15, of St. John's said someone she knows exposed her body to a complete stranger on Chatroulette.

"The next day, somehow, people found out about it. And the guy who had been watching her somehow found out where she lived, her age and everything about her," she said.

"They are young and behaving just like I've learned from my investigations into luring.… It's boys and girls who are being asked to perform sexual acts on the webcam,' said Royal Newfoundland Constabulary Const. Ed Billard, a child exploitation and pornography investigator.

He said the RNC is finding videos recorded from Chatroulette in the collections of child porn suspects.
