A Newfoundland tour boat operator has recorded a video of orcas attacking a minke whale in Trinity Bay Tuesday.

He said he'd never seen orcas attack a whale before, and the spectacle also surprised the tourists who were on his boat.

"Everybody was a little bit taken aback at first, you know, this is nature. Of course, they've got an appropriate name — killer whales," said tour boat operator Bob Bartlett. "This was actually quite violent last night. It was a deliberate attack and quite vicious."

Last week orcas were videotaped killing a minke whale near Tors Cove, south of St. John's.
