NAPE president Carol Furlong would like to see all of the union's home care contracts combined into a master agreement. (CBC) The largest union in Newfoundland and Labrador has concluded another deal for home workers, this time covering the Northern Peninsula and southern Labrador.
The Newfoundland and Labrador Association of Public and Private Employees said the tentative deal covers 65 workers employed by Northern Home Care Services.
It's the 14th such contract that NAPE has negotiated recently.
"There are improvements in the wage package, there are improvements in contract language and in the benefits as well, and those mirror the previous ones we just negotiated in the past few weeks," said NAPE president Carol Furlong.
Furlong said six of the contracts were negotiated together, and she would like to see that trend continue.
"Ultimately, our goal is to have one massive agreement if that's achievable at all because that works much better for the employees, for the union of course, and down the road I think it works for the employers as well," she said.
"We can have a synchronized type of agreement."
To date, all of the other agreements have been ratified.
