St. John's International Airport is reporting its busiest June on record.

Last month, some 125,514 people went through the airport's gates.

The volume is up more than 11 per cent over June 2009.

St. John's Airport was one of only six airports in Canada that saw an increase in passenger traffic in 2009.

"We live in a vibrant and growing city that is attractive to tourists and has an expanding oil industry," said the airport's CEO Keith Collins in a news release."It has enabled us to recruit new airlines and encourage existing airlines to expand."

In the first six months of 2010 passenger traffic in St. John's exceeded last year's totals by more than eight per cent – compared to a national average growth rate of 2.8 percent reported by the country's top 32 airports.
