The union representing Newfoundland and Labrador's homecare workers said Thursday that it's reached tentative collective agreements with six home care agencies in the province.

The Newfoundland and Labrador Association of Public and Private Employees said the agreement includes wage increases and improvements to benefits and contract language.

"This was a unique round of negotiations," said NAPE President Carol Furlong in a press release Thursday.

"NAPE has advocated for a master agreement for all home care workers in the province and this is a major step in that process."

Six of seventeen unionized home care agencies negotiated together in the process.

Compassion Home Care Inc., Notre Dame Compassionate Care Inc., Provincial Home Care and Provincial Home Care Central, as well as Serenity Nursing and Total Care Nursing of the Home Services Ltd. company all reached tentative deals with their employees.

Ratification votes are set to be held in the coming weeks, NAPE said.
