Byelection signs have been a common sight this month in Topsail district, in Paradise and Conception Bay South. (CBC) Voters in a suburban district outside St. John's will determine Tuesday which politician will represent them in Newfoundland and Labrador's legislature.
A byelection in Topsail district was called after Prime Minister Stephen Harper appointed Elizabeth Marshall to the Senate.
Marshall, a former cabinet minister and provincial auditor general, had held the seat for the provincial Progressive Conservatives since 2003.
Candidates in the byelection are Paul Davis for the PCs, Shane Kennedy for the Liberals, and Brian Nolan for the New Democrats.
Topsail is the only vacancy in the house of assembly. The governing Tories hold 42 seats, while the Liberals hold four and the NDP hold one.
Polls are open between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. There are 10,188 eligible voters on the revised list from Elections Newfoundland and Labrador.
CBC News will have results Tuesday night on radio, television and online.
