St. John's city council rejected a request to give some of its territory to neighbouring Petty Harbour, Monday.

It's exactly what City Councillor Wally Collins predicted would happen when he spoke with CBC News earlier in the day.

"I can't see us moving it out because Conception Bay South will be in to move the borders back in and Torbay and it would just follow. So, I don't see us changing our boundaries," said Collins.

Petty Harbour made the request because it's experiencing residential growth but is running out of land to build on.

It asked St. John's to give up some land along Maddox Cove Road to build more houses.

Petty Harbour Mayor Nat Hutchings hasn't comment on St. John's city council's decision.
