Construction crews will soon start building the final section of a highway intended to ease congestion in and out of Conception Bay South, a growing community next to St. John's.

A tender call has been issued for the clearing of more than five kilometres of trees and shrubs between Kelligrews and Seal Cove, in the west end of town, to make way for a stretch of highway that will be the final link in Route 60 — the C.B.S. bypass road.

C.B.S. Mayor Woodrow French said the federal and provincial governments have agreed to split the costs.

"It's been a long time coming and it's one that the town of Conception Bay South has been looking forward to for the past couple of years," he said.

"It will certainly expand the growth in the west end of the town and improve the accessibility now because Route 60 is becoming really overworked at that end of the town."

The work is expected to begin in the spring, with plans to complete the highway by late 2011.
