A man from central Newfoundland wanted for failing to provide the necessities of life to a child was arrested in Nova Scotia Jan. 22.

Glenn Budgell, 34, is accused of failing to help a sick five-year-old boy in Grand Falls-Windsor, in central Newfoundland.

RCMP officials said Budgell is also being charged with assault.

Budgell used to live in Gander and Grand Falls-Windsor, according to police.

He was charged after Grand Falls-Windsor District RCMP and the provincial Department of Child, Youth and Family Services conducted a joint investigation, and in the process found that a five-year-old child was not given much needed medical attention.

Officials immediately had the child sent to the Central Regional Health Care Centre in Grand Falls-Windsor.

He was later transferred to the Janeway Hospital in St. John's for further treatment. The child's condition is not believed to be life threatening.
