The family of two men from Newfoundland and Labrador stranded in Haiti by Tuesday's devastating earthquake is breathing a sigh of relief.

Brothers Emerson and Vaden Oram were in Haiti trying to drum up business for their Glovertown, central Newfoundland, fish processing plants when the quake struck.

Their family members feared the worst when they couldn't contact the men Tuesday.

But they reached them by cellphone Wednesday and learned the brothers were safe but living in the parking lot of a hotel in Port-au-Prince.

"The stress of not knowing if they are alive is gone," said Emerson's daughter Corina George on Thursday. "We know they are OK. Now we've got the stress of waiting, not knowing when they are coming home. Not knowing how long they are going to be there. It's very draining."

The Oram brothers don't know what aid is on its way or when they'll be able to leave the country.

George said the men have less information about what's happening in Haiti than the outside world does.
