The day after the Newfoundland and Labrador legislature passed a motion to look at ways to better protect motorists from moose, there's been another highway crash involving the large animals.

The accident happened Thursday morning on a stretch of highway near the community of Whitbourne, about 90 kilometres west of St. John's.

A truck travelling east struck the moose, pushing it off the road, but the truck then veered into the other lane and smashed into a van.

Four people, two in the van and two in the truck, received minor injuries and were sent to the nearby Whitbourne medical clinic. They were released a short time later.

On Wednesday, Newfoundland and Labrador's legislature agreed to review measures, such as fences and lights, aimed at reducing the number of moose accidents on highways.

The decision came days after a petition with 26,000 names demanded the government do something to make highways and roads safer.

The province averages about 700 crashes a year involving vehicles and moose.
