Three men have been charged with illegal hunting and have had their new truck seized after complaints of shots being fired in Newfoundland's Conception Bay North area Monday.

RCMP said they were called to the cabin area of Goulds Big Pond, near Roaches Line, where they found three men who had just killed a moose.

Police said the men, who are from the Trinity-Conception area, had licences that allowed them to take part in the annual moose hunt, but not in that area. The licences were for the Northern Peninsula region, about 700 kilometres away, police said. Two of the men have also been charged with possession of open liquor.

Police seized a 2009 pickup truck, a rifle, a shotgun, ammunition and a moose carcass.
