A man was set to make an appearance in provincial court in St. John's in connection with a stabbing last month in the downtown area of the city.

The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary said the 22-year-old stabbed an employee of a nightclub in the area just before midnight on Oct. 23.

The incident began when a fight broke out between the two inside the bar, police said.

It quickly moved outside, in the area of Mile One Centre, where the accused stabbed the 38-year-old club worker, police said.

The employee was taken to hospital and treated.

The man who was arrested faces charges of aggravated assault and assault with a weapon.
