Crew rescued after abandoning sinking vessel

Four people have been rescued after the 10-metre boat they were in began taking on water in Newman Sound, Bonavista Bay, Friday morning.
The crew of the Jamie T and T issued a mayday just after 7 a.m, a short distance from the community of Happy Adventure.
Search and rescue officials said the four, including three members of one family — the owner, his mother and his son — abandoned the vessel and got into a small speedboat and were waiting to be taken aboard another vessel.
A Canadian Coast Guard Auxilliary ship picked them up within two hours of the mayday call.
Officials said the incident happened in fairly sheltered waters and the crewmembers weren't injured.
