Police are investigating a theft at the Molson distribution centre in Baie Verte. (CBC)Police are trying to crack open a mysterious case in Baie Verte, N.L.
The RCMP say someone broke into the local Molson distributor and took more than $4,000 worth of beer Monday night. And they say it shouldn't be hard to find witnesses.
Police said the getaway vehicle, loaded down with 200 cases of beer, should have been obvious to anyone who saw it travelling down the community's main street.
"We're talking a pickup-truck full, and that would be telling in itself. The bumper would literally be dragging," said RCMP Cpl. Jason Derry.
But the case may have gone cold.
"In a little place like this, it's very, very, very mind-blowing," said Greg Noble, who owns the Molson distribution business in Baie Verte, on Newfoundland's northeast coast.
The distribution centre is on the town's main street. Noble believes there must be witnesses who thought they were watching a legitimate transaction.
"It's flabbergasting to know that there are people around here who did that and it hurts me — more in a way because Molson Canada is a really good company, we're really good to people here," said Noble.
Derry is confident that a caper of this calibre won't be kept a secret for long.
"We want to get some of the product back before it goes down the toilet, and we want to have someone in handcuffs," he told CBC.
