Mary Beth Harshbarger, seen in this undated photograph with her husband, Mark Harshbarger, is fighting extradition to Canada. (CBC)An American woman who shot and killed her husband during a hunting trip to Newfoundland is making another attempt to avoid extradition to Canada.
Mary Beth Harshbarger told police she mistook her husband, Mark Harshbarger, for a bear when she shot him near Buchans Junction during a dusky evening in 2006.
Canadian authorities want to prosecute Harshbarger for criminal negligence causing death and careless use of a firearm.
Harshbarger lost an appeal of her extradition order earlier this month, and was supposed to have surrendered to U.S. marshals no later than Monday.
But on Tuesday, her lawyer filed a motion asking to delay the extradition order, pending another appeal.
