The group that governs physicians in Newfoundland and Labrador said Friday it will hold a disciplinary hearing for a former St. John's doctor who's now serving time in a federal prison.

Sean Buckingham is serving seven years on charges including sexual assault and drug trafficking.

The province's College of Physicians and Surgeons said it received a complaint as a result of court proceedings.

The college said details of the complaint will be made available at the hearing on April 29.

Buckingham gave up his medical licence after he was charged in 2005, but a three-member tribunal of the college will decide if he should be further disciplined.

A Newfoundland Supreme Court jury convicted him of criminal charges in December 2007.
