A crab fisherman from Clarenville says he is still overwhelmed by news that he is one of four winners of Saturday night's huge lottery jackpot.

Earl Smith, who bought the 6/49 ticket while visiting his daughter in Ontario, was at the Ontario Lottery Corporation Monday, picking up $12.6 million.

Smith said that he woke up every hour Sunday night to recheck his numbers, making sure he didn't make a mistake.

"We're just pondering everything over.… It's just really overwhelming. We're judging everything accordingly, to see how things [go]," he said.

"My son back home in Newfoundland is just freaked right out with it all. So, it's looking after family members there now and whatever, and that's a big priority for us. After that, we'll go on and see how things go."

Smith took a limousine to the lottery corporation to get his money. He said that during the trip, he kept expecting that someone would meet him at the lottery centre to tell him it was all a joke.

Smith claimed the prize with his son-in-law, Deon Goobie. He said he also intended to split the proceeds with his son, who reminded him to buy his ticket.

Four winners split the $50.3 million prize. Three of the tickets were purchased in Ontario, and the fourth in Quebec.
