Patty Pottle filed the highest claims in a ministerial list made public on Monday. (CBC)A minister with duties in some of Labrador's most remote communities topped a list of cabinet spending so far this year, documents show.
Aboriginal Affairs Minister Patty Pottle submitted claims for $36,475.76, according to reports made public Monday.
The claims for Pottle, a community leader in Nain who was appointed to cabinet after entering politics in last year's election, largely involve travel.
Government Services Minister Kevin O'Brien came second on the list, with spending of $33,438.99, much of it on travel claims.
The least amount spent involved Human Resources, Labour and Employment Minister Susan Sullivan, who didn't file any claims. Sullivan was appointed to cabinet during a shuffle in late October.
The figures mark the first time that cabinet ministers' expense claims have been made public, following an overhaul of house of assembly spending practices sparked by a legislative spending scandal that came to light in 2006.
Auditor General John Noseworthy uncovered serious problems with how the legislature's finances were managed. The probe led to criminal charges against four politicians and a former senior civil servant, all of which are still before the courts.
From now, ministerial claims will be posted regularly on the government's website, twice a year.
