A St. John's man charged with second-degree murder in connection to a body found by four boys last week was remanded in custody on Sunday.

Warren Patrick White, 35, is charged with second-degree murder and performing an indignity to a dead body.

He was sent for psychiatric evaluation after a court appearance on Saturday and returned to court on Sunday morning. He was remanded until June 16 and is set for more psychiatric evaluation in the meantime.

White was arrested after the dismembered body of Amanda Power was found in a suitcase.

A group of 10-year-old boys were playing cops and robbers Friday afternoon in the backyard of a home on Warbury Street, in the city's west end, when one spotted the suitcase, said Paula Williams, the mother of one of the children.

When the boys opened the suitcase, they found the body.

Royal Newfoundland Constabulary Const. Paul Davis said the children will get any help they may need to cope with what they saw.

Police believe Power was killed between May 30 and June 6.

There's been no other information released concerning the victim.
