In the final leg of curling's Grand Slam series, Glenn Howard captured his first Players' Championship in St. John's.
Howard, third Richard Hart, second Brent Laing and lead Craig Savill, defeated Kevin Martin's rink out of Edmonton 7-1 Sunday.

The 2007 world champion out of Coldwater, Ont., earns a trip to the Olympic qualifying event with the win, as well a purse of $100,000.
Sunday's world-class final was set up with wins by the top two seeds in Sunday's morning draw.
Howard's team advanced to the championship match by virtue of a 5-3 win over Pat Simmons and his team from Davidson, Sask.
Martin's rink used three in the first end to cruise to a comfortable 6-1 win over fellow Edmontonian Kevin Koe.
Howard and Martin finish the season with a split of the four men's events in the Grand Slam series. Martin won the Canadian Classic Open and The National, while Howard was victorious at the Masters of Curling event.
