For the second time within a week, heavy ice has prompted Husky Energy to suspend production at an oilfield off the coast of Newfoundland.

Production at the White Rose field was halted Monday night, the company said.

Husky is monitoring pack ice and icebergs that are moving through the area about 350 kilometres southeast of St. John's.

Husky suspended operations at White Rose for two days last week because of ice.

A Husky official said last week that production at the field, the third offshore oilfield off Newfoundland's east coast, can reach as much as 130,000 barrels per day.
