Police pulled over a tractor on a main St. John's road Sunday night, and then put the driver in a cell after finding liquor in the vehicle.

The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary said the driver of a CAT tractor was stopped on Kenmount Road at about 11:30 p.m.

The driver, who spent the night in the police lockup, faces charges of open alcohol in a vehicle and driving with an expired licence. The operator also faces a charge of breach of probation, the RNC said in a statement.

The driver is expected to appear at provincial court in St. John's on Monday.
