The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary continues to search for clues in a St. John's sexual assault investigation, but has had little to tell residents in the neighbourhood where the alleged incident occurred.

Police say a man forced his way into a home on Circular Road, near downtown St. John's, on Thursday and attacked a woman, 31.

'People I guess are talking about it, but nobody really knows anything,' resident Bob Cahill says. 'People I guess are talking about it, but nobody really knows anything,' resident Bob Cahill says.

Investigators and members of the Rovers volunteer ground search team combed the area for possible evidence over the weekend. Walking trails and backyards were examined for possible clues.

Area resident Jo Hennebury said neighbours are taking precautions.

"I'll tell my daughter … not to be out by herself at night or anything like that, and myself as well," she said.

Bob Cahill said neighbours have learned very little about the alleged incident or the investigation. Cahill said he saw several dozen Rovers in his neighbourhood on Saturday.

"I think most people are in the dark," Cahill said.

"We haven't been told anything about it, so people I guess are talking about it, but nobody really knows anything."

RNC Const. Shawn O'Reilly said there are no suspects in the investigation.

"We don't know who this person is," he said.

"It's very disturbing…. [But] we have extra patrols stepped up in that neighbourhood. We have several investigators assigned to the file."
