Forensic investigators with the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary will not confirm whether a search of a home in Paradise is connected to the weekend murder of a woman in St. John's.

Family found the body of Chrissy Predham Newman, 28, in a basement apartment in Airport Heights on Sunday evening, after being unable to contact her for hours.

On Thursday, a forensics team was searching inside a home in the neighbouring town of Paradise.

Two police vehicles were parked outside the home early Friday morning.

The house is registered to Chrissy and Raymond Newman. The couple separated in the fall, when Chrissy Newman and her 16-month-old daughter moved to St. John's.

Children's protection workers took Ireland Newman into custody on Monday.

The police have said they have no particular suspects in the case, and have not commented on how Newman died.

Meanwhile, friends of Newman's family are rallying to raise money for the education and future care of Ireland Newman.

"It's absolutely a sin that Ireland has lost her mother, and we have to help her," said Shelly Courneya, an Ottawa resident and a friend of Chrissy Newman's mother.

Chrissy Newman grew up in Ottawa before moving to the St. John's area to care for her ailing father.

Courneya said a trust fund should be established within days so that friends can make donations to help Ireland Newman.

"Flowers are great, but we need to do more," Courneya told CBC News Thursday.

"But this little baby has lost her mother and she needs some help."
