Crew aboard the floating platform at the Terra Nova oil field responded to a small fire Tuesday night.

The Coast Guard says it was alerted to the fire, but there was no need for an evacuation or rescue effort.

The fire was reported in the floating production, storage and offloading (FPSO) platform's generator room at about 10:30 p.m.

The crew was able to put out the fire quickly.

No one was injured.

The Terra Nova FPSO was removed from service in May for repairs and refurbishment, and was returned to production less than two weeks ago.

The platform is pumping oil about 350 kilometres southeast of St. John's.
