Condon enters ring for Labrador byelection

An outspoken advocate for Labrador rights has joined the race for the upcoming federal byelection in the region.

Ern Condon, a veteran of municipal politics in Labrador City, is running as an independent.

Condon also ran as an independent in Labrador in the 2004 general election, placed third in a field of five candidates.

The May 24 byelection is being held to replace Liberal MP Lawrence O'Brien, who died in December following a battle with cancer.

The other candidates are Liberal Todd Russell, Conservative Graham Letto, New Democrat Frances Fry and Green Jason Crummey.

The byelection will be cancelled if a general election is called first.
