A man from Stephenville is in custody and faces eight criminal charges, following a violent incident on Ross Avenue Tuesday.

The RCMP said the man, 35, is in custody and was awaiting a court appearance on Wednesday.

The accused allegedly assaulted his wife, who ran for help to some neighbours — who happened to be RCMP officers.

Police said when police arrived at the residence, the man left in his vehicle and drove erratically on the wrong side of the road.

He is also accused of later elbowing an officer in the face while at the RCMP detachment.

The charges include assault, uttering threats, resisting arrest, driving while impaired by a drug and unsafe storage of a firearm.
