Details have been finalized for the visit of the Stanley Cup to Bonavista. It'll be in the community on Aug. 30, along with hometown hero and former Boston Bruins player Michael Ryder.
The cup will be delivered to Bonavista by helicopter from St. John's and will then be paraded around town.
Mayor Betty Fitzgerald said Ryder would lead the motorcade, which will be smaller than previous parades because of traffic concerns.
"It's going to be anywhere from nine to 10 cars," she said.
In addition to Ryder and his family, Premier Dunderdale has been invited, as have other special guests. Minor hockey teams and figure skaters will also be included.
The parade is set to start at 1 p.m., followed by a series of private viewings then a public viewing beginning at 4 p.m.
The town is preparing for a large crowd, with plans to bus people in from nearby towns.
In addition to Ryder, NHL player Adam Pardy - who is also from Bonavista - is also expected to be in attendance. Both players signed contracts for this upcoming NHL season with the Dallas Stars.
