St. John's city officials are installing new digital parking meters that will accept both loonies and toonies.
Councillor Bernard Davis said at Monday's council meeting that the new meters will be in place in January, and all loonies and toonies will work in them.
"New parking meters will work with current and future coins created by the Canadian mint," said Davis.
"When there is an issue with the meter, the city will find out in digital real time, which will improve our response time and result in improved customer service."
City workers will install the new meters in the downtown area first, and then replace the meters in Churchill Square.
