A St. John's language arts teacher has just received the Prime Minister's Award for Teaching Excellence.
Christina Cox is the only Newfoundlander of the 94 teachers across the country who won the prize this year.
The award is considered the highest honour for teachers in Canada.
The Holy Cross Junior High teacher recently went to Ottawa to pick it up.
Cox says her efforts at integrating technology into the curriculum are what won her the award, adding that her students have also shown her a thing or two.
"Our students went out on several field trips and took their iPods with them," she said, explaining that her students shot videos then created multimedia projects to be shared with other classes.
"Some of them even taught me things that I wasn't quite aware of."
Cox is also credited with raising funds to bring technology and skills training into the classroom.
