A west coast man has been sentenced to five years in prison for a string of fires in western Newfoundland.
Dean Young, 21, pleaded guilty to setting 10 different fires in St. George's between March 2012 and May 2013.
He hit a variety of targets, including buildings, sheds, vehicles and the town's bandstand.
In one case, Young destroyed an excavator worth $200,000.
At the sentencing hearing in Stephenville, Judge Laura Mennie said Young wreaked havoc in his community and put safety at risk.
Along with five years behind bars, Young must also provide a DNA sample to justice officials.
