St. Anthony to remember fatal crash victim
Residents of St. Anthony held a memorial service for a young nurse from India who died in a car crash on Wednesday.
Justin Devis, 28, was on his way to Corner Brook to prepare paperwork to bring his wife to Newfoundland from India.
He was travelling with Biju Antony, 39, a Roman Catholic priest who lived in Bird Cove.
His car collided with a snow plow approximately a kilometre north of the intersection of Route 430 and the Cormack access road.
Devis had been working as a nurse in St. Anthony for the last three years. During his time in the community, he made strong impressions on the people he met there.
Angela Kean said he was a very friendly person who was a big part of the community.
"He fitted in with everybody," Kean said. "He would come up and say hello to you as if he knew you all your life."
Kean said the mass on Sunday would allow the community to grieve together.
"I think this will be a way for his friends to say goodbye to Justin," she said. "And hopefully it will make his family in India feel that we did something for him."
