Two young drivers were arrested overnight on opposite ends of Newfoundland.

Around 10:30 p.m. on Monday night in Corner Brook, the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary arrested an 18-year-old driver on the highway near the Massey Drive exit.

Police clocked the driver going at a speed of 172 km/h.

He was charged with speeding and imprudent driving, and will appear in court in December.

Meanwhile, police also arrested a 19-year-old from St. John's just before 3:00 a.m. Tuesday after he ran a red light on Topsail Road in St. John's.

Police say the suspect tried to get away after a patrol car did a U-turn to come after him.

The driver was quickly stopped by the RNC, and was also charged with imprudent driving and running a red light.

He was released and will appear in court at a later date.
