A snowplow clipped a large propane tank at St. John's airport Wednesday morning, causing a leak that caused the part of the grounds to be cordoned off.
A road in the area was also closed after the incident, which happened near a cargo area.
An official with St. John's International Airport said operations were not affected by the incident.
Supt. Don Byrne of the St. John's Regional Fire Department said that the leak initially seems to be minor, but firefighters were prepared should the situation worsen.
"We've got lines laid out there as a precaution," he said.
A crew from Superior Propane arrived soon after to examine the tank.
Firefighters from the airport were also on the scene to provide assistance if necessary.
