A snowmobiler was killed while hunting on Newfoundland's southwest coast on Thursday, the second fatal incident in as many days involving the machines.

RCMP said the Isle aux Morts man, 35, was hunting just outside the community on Thursday afternoon when he lost control of his machine at the top of a steep hill.

The snowmobile landed on top of him.

Another man was nearby, but could not revive him.

"Speed and alcohol are not suspected to be factors in the matter," the RCMP said in a statement.

On Wednesday, a 49-year-old man was killed when his snowmobile crashed along a trail near Sheffield Lake. CBC News was told the man crashed into a tree.
