Shooting near Bowring Park 'targeted,' motive unclear
A 30-year-old St. John's man was in serious but stable condition Tuesday afternoon on the heels of a shooting near Bowring Park that police say was not random.
The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary said the shooting on Williams Heights, a small street near Columbus Drive, occurred around 7:30 p.m.
The RNC labelled the shooting as "a targeted act of violence" and said there was no threat to public safety.
Speaking later with reporters, RNC Chief Robert Johnston said the man received multiple wounds during the incident. At least one of the wounds was a gunshot wound.
Johnston would not speculate on the motive.
Police are not describing what weapons were involved in the incident.
The RNC's major crimes incident has taken on the case. On Tuesday morning, police still had the area cordoned off.
A window appeared to have been smashed out of a car parked in front of the home.
No arrests have yet been made.
