The band council in the Labrador community of Shetshatshiu says it is working on ways to protect its residents from aggressive dogs, following last week's attack on a pregnant woman.
Danica Pinette, 19, was bitten by a pit-bull mix dog that had broken free from its chain.
The animal ripped into Pinette's arm, leaving a deep wound. Pinette is seven months pregnant.
"We need to figure out how to handle this situation when it comes to dog ownership … dog owners to muzzle their dogs, or have a leash or something," Band manager Greg Pastitshi said.
"So we're in the works of trying to get a bylaw sorted out and do the research, and hopefully we have something in place soon."
Pastitshi is hoping a veterinarian will come to the community to educate people on how to behave when they encounter roaming, aggressive dogs.
The owner of the dog involved in last week's attack gave up the animal. The Town of Happy Valley-Goose Bay currently has it quarantined.
The animal is expected to be put down next week.
