Searchers have found the body of a missing snowmobiler from the Labrador community of Natuashish.

RCMP confirmed that the 51-year-old man was found early Saturday evening.

The search included members of the RCMP, provincial fire and emergency services, and volunteer ground search and rescue teams from Nain, Hopedale and Happy Valley-Goose Bay, as well as residents of Natuashish.

Police say the man left town by himself last Monday and was headed to an area west of the community, known locally as Border Beacon. He wasn't reported missing until Friday morning.

RCMP said the man's body was found next to his snowmobile, about six kilometres southeast of Natuashish. It's unclear how he died.

While his name has been withheld pending notification of next of kin, people in the community described him as quiet, friendly, and a skilled carpenter and wood carver.
